Prospective New Member Information

Who We Are:

Michigan's oldest HO scale model railroad club, established in the winter of 1938 - 1939.
A Michigan non-profit corporation, organized to provide members an opportunity to participate in the hobby of model railroading and to operate an HO scale model railroad layout.

What We Offer:

Like most model railroad clubs, the Redford Model Railroad Club was organized to provide Fun, Fellowship and an opportunity to learn and grow in our hobby.
An opportunity to broaden one's horizons in the hobby as well as in the prototype railroad world.
An opportunity to share in all phases of the hobby - to gain knowledge and acquire or sharpen skills, with hands - on experience and to solve particular modeling problems by drawing on the readily available skills and experiences of the members.

Use of the Club's large layout in the Club's own building.

Ultimately, full partnership.

What We Expect

Show enthusiasm - An outward indication that prospective new members are having fun, enjoy the company and fellowship of the club and that of participating in the club's activites, whether work or play, is a satisfying experience.

Regular attendance at weekly club meetins, be they work or play sessions (we realize that 100% attendance may not be possible due to occasional work, family or other outside influences)

Club meetins are held at the club house, 27316 Michigan Ave., Inkster, every Thursday beginning at 7:30 PM (except the business meeting, on the last Thursday of each month is usually held at our member homes).

Demonstration that prospective new members are wiling to 'get their hands dirty"  along side the membership during work sessions, etc.

Demonstration that prospective new members can interface with the membership in the club's informally organied, volunteer environment.

Prospective new members are to abide by all rules and regualtions as well as other decisions made by the membership.

What We Don't Expect

Lack of model railroading experience is not a handicap to joining our organization.  Potential members need not be "experts" or "master model railraders".
Most members had very little experience at the time they joined the Club. (The Club does provide the opportunity to learn and gain experience in our hobby).

What Does it Cost To Become a Member?

Prospective member pay a $5 fee each time they attend, whether work or play sessions.

Upon to completion of all prospective membership requirements (and the Club's membership voting upon the request for full membership) there is a nominal $50 initiation fee which must be paid. Dues are $50 per month.
